Make-up Technical file- Eye shapes and eyeliner

In our recent make-up lesson the focus was on the eyes and what make-up such as eyeliner can do for your eyes. We were told to pair up and work on each other creating three different eyeliner looks.

Products:

 • L'Oreal super slim black eyeliner
 • Rimmel 3D black mascara
 • Anastasia Beverly Hill Dip brow pomade meduim brown
 • nars creamy concealer vanilla
 • Naked Palette 2
 • Sleek lipstick vamp
 • Rimmel liner red
LOOK 1

Look one is light eye make-up (not very heavy) so some neutral tone eye shadows such as browns and creams on the lid and then eyeliner think with a small flick at the end nothing too dramatic.

 1. Firstly I primed the eyelid with the concealer and blended it all in. I then used the colour foxy on the base of the lid, tease on the crease and chopper over the top which is a shimmery copper colour.
 2. I then used the eyeliner on the upper lid as close as I could get to the lash line and drew along the line to the corner of the eye. I then extended the line out to create a small flick.
 3. I then went over the lashes with the mascara to darken them and give them some length. I then went into the brows and filled then in slightly with the pomade to define the shape.

LOOK 2

The second look was a heavier eye make-up with a thicker flick and more mascara.

 1. I started off going over the same eye make-up to build the eye make-up up. I went over the eye shadow with snakebit eyeshadow by naked palette 2 which is a shimmery brown shadow just to darker the eyes slightly.
 2. Next was making the eyeliner thicker and a longer flick for more of an evening look. I went back to the lash line and went over the line again to the end of the eye to make it thicker and then I extended the flick further and made it slightly thicker.
 3. To finish off the heavier look I applied a red lip colour to make it look more evening. I then started with lining the lips with a red and then filled them in with the red lipstick.

LOOK 3

Look three was a catwalk liner and could create anything we wanted. I decided to create a super over larged flick on the eyeliner on both eyes to create a dramatic liner effect.

 1. I used my liner pen and started by the lash line in the corner of the eye making the line thicker all the way to the end of the eye. I then went over the flick and extended it all the way to the end of the brow.
 2. I then went over with my liner pen again and equalised the line and its thickness and making sure the point at the end is a clean cut and centered.
 3. I then moved onto the other eye where I extended the liner and the thickness to match the other side.
 4. I then went over with the mascara again just to make the lashes longer, thicker and darker.

Overall evaluation

Overall I think the liner went very well. I got told for my look one the shadow was a little dark for a lighter look and maybe just a nude base would be acceptable for a neutral eye. The hardest part of look one was the liner because its hard getting a very thin neat liner close to the lash line however patience and a steady hand. The evening eye make-up I enjoyed creating because I like creating thicker eye liner and the precision of the line and mastering the line to perfection. I think filling in the brows and adding a red lip really helped to complete the look and give it an evening feel. The catwalk look was basically a very large winged eyeliner that extended to the end of the brow. I really pleased with how the catwalk eyeliner came out as I feel they were very symmetrical and the size and shape were the same on both sides and I think the flick and point was very neat and complimented the eye. I really enjoy creating eyeliner as it's one of my favourite looks to create on the eye. I think if I could do it again I would maybe go for something a little different for the catwalk look and really experiment with how eyeliner can be placed on the eye however we was limited to time and also swapping over in partners.

Hair Technical File- Advance Plaiting

Firstly we were shown a demonstration from Lottie of the types of plaits we were creating, the first one was a five stand plait, waterfall down the side of the hair and a dutch plait. The five strand plait was extremely complicated as you had to have control over each section and make sure they all went in the right order.

Equipment:

 • Paddle brush
 • pin tail comb
 • hair bands
We didn't have long to complete the look as we worked on each other, I went first as the model because my hair was long enough for the 5 strand plait. I was then my turn and I found a partner that had long enough hair to create the plait on.

5, 8 AND 11 STRAND PLAIT
 1. Start with separating the hair into 5 even sections. Then take the left strand over to where the middle one is then take the middle one and cross it over to the left in the middle of the two.
 2. The take the strand on the right hand side and pull it over to the middle and bring the middle on over to the right hand side in the centre of the two.
 3. You then keep going and repeating the steps over and over again.
This did take me three attempts to do and finally with Lottie help guiding me through each step of where to put which strand because when I got part way down I ended up getting muddled with the strands and loosing it. Eventually with the guidance of Lottie I managed to finish the plait and tie it at the end.

I firstly created a 5 strand then below I added three into one side, I did this by get the three and plaiting it over and before the left side comes over your loop it through the hair into the side and then carry on plaiting. You do this all the way down. You then do the same on the other side to make an 11 strand, you grab an extra three and then do the exact same process on the other side to make 11.

DUTCH

Next was the dutch plait which is basically a French plait but the opposite way round I like to think. I have been able to do a dutch plait for a while now however I still need to get the hang of making sure the plait is nice and tight and no drag.

 1. Firstly I started with grabbing the front of the hair and splitting it into three sections.
 2. Then you cross the left side under to the middle and then bring the right side under to the middle.
 3. When you get back to the left side you grab some hair on the left side of the head and bring it into the plait and under again like the first time. You then take the right side and also an extra bit of hair on the side and plait it under into the middle.
 4. You repeatedly do this plaiting down and keeping working the hair into the plait all the way down.
 5. Once you get to the end of the head you join the final bits of hair in then just finish it off by plaiting the rest of the hair all the way down to the end.

WATERFALL AND LADDER

 1. I started at the top of the head with creating a small plait.
 2. I then drop the left side strand down and get my model to hold it
 3. I then incorporate another strand from the top and plait over and drop one strand down and get my model to hold it.
 4. I keep doing this to the end of the head and finish of with a normal plait and tieing it at the end.

 1. When creating the latter, you do the same process however when you are grabbing from the top you grab the strand that your model was holding.
 2. Keeping plaiting all the way along incorporating the strands and eventually it will create a ladder.
 3. You can either get you model to hold the hair when creating the section one so it hangs down or you finish it off by not passing it to your modelling an including it in the hair so its closes off.

Final evaluation

During the time scale we were given and swapping over in partners I was able to create two different plait types. I found the five strand plait hard to create as I also got a little lost in which direction to put the strand. I would start off okay and then I would loose where I placed the strand and it would end wrong however in the end I did complete a full 5 strand plait. I find the technique of creating a dutch plait easy however it's the smaller things that make it perfect that I struggle with such as making sure the plait is dead centre and also making sure its tight to the scalp and no drag which is where I have my biggest problem. Over all I feel the advance plaiting session was very helpful especially with the 5 strand plait as I didn't know it existed and then making improvements on my dutch plait and trying to perfect it. I really enjoyed this technical lesson and felt the lesson was a challenge which I like.

Chanels Presentation and Promotion

PROMOTION

       - Sales promotion                                            - Public relation
  - Personal selling                                              - Advertising
                     - Internet                                                          - Billboards and so on

For Chanel brand, they use advertising and internet to promote the audiences because both things are very current and used by most people. The advertisement “Her kiss, her smile, her perfume” created for the perfume “CHANEL NO 5” is very captivating and well known. The face of the brand was Nicole Kidman who is very well-known actress and adored by many. The advertisement was created like a movie permits women to feel excited by the product. It is a sale strategy because they want to buy this perfume to beautiful and feminim and at the same time like to be like Nicole Kidman. Nicole Kidman, she has been a model for Chanel since 2003. She represents beauty, feminist and luxurious. The advertising is well known by all women because it is different from other perfumes. The perfume is considerate as a characteristic of the woman. This is why the brand is well-known all over the world as it can relate to any woman.

Strategies

CHANEL invests a lot in promotion through different channels. First of all, it implements a series of advertisements on TV, magazines and posters. For example, it uses Kate Moss and Keira Knightley to be its spokespeople for the fragrance Coco mademoiselle, and Marilyn Monore for CHANEL no.5 on TV. Photos featuring top stars like Nicole Kidman and recently the new face Gisele Bndchen can always be found in magazines like ELLE, VOGUE or in busy districts like Central.

Apart from advertising, sales promotions like fashion shows and merchandise demonstations are held. 5-6 fashion shows are held per year, the first show of each season is always held in Paris, New York, and London, showing its new resort, spring ready-to-wear, spring couture, pre fall, fall and fall couture items.

Regular merchandise demonstrations for publishing new products invite media to report. Examples are CHANEL Sublimage (in Taipei, 2006) for skin care products and CHANEL Mat Lumiere (in Tokyo, 2007) for cosmetics. This kind of meetings can also function as a means of public relations.

Parties like the CHANEL Dinner are held by time to time. Celebrities like movie stars or top models are invited to join as to boost CHANEL's popularity.

Cooperating with websites is another way of promotion. In 2002, the company cooperated with style.com, and issued The Travel Chic Shopping Guide. It chose items from CHANEL and suggested for summer travel.

And exhibitions are also good media. CHANEL Mobile Art Exhibition is being held in Hong Kong from Feb to April 2008, and after that, they will move to Tokyo, New York, London, Moscow and Paris. The exhibition has a show including twenty well-known artists and some installations and stimulations about CHANEL. One thing to mention, famous architect Zaha Hadid designed the exhibition house.

PRESENTATION

Presentation is in everything Chanel creates and links in the price point because the better the presentation the higher the price, the promotion is you can see they have many strategies such as fashion shows, billboards, advertisements, website and the use of  celebrities shows its a high end brand and presents it can uses these iconic feature and promote themselves worldwide. The product, if its a good product and Chanel has build her name and presents the product and packaging well it will be sold and costumers will pay that high end price. So the presentation and overall look of the brand means everything as visual image, presentation, products and its worldwide promotion strategy all links together to help build Chanel.

Above are two looks created by Chanel which were from the Chanel youtube channel. Top look is a heavier look with blue  liner smudged out, black mascara and the lipstick shipshape which is the red/orange shade. The make-up tutorial below is more of a natural look, covering the lids in a lilac eyeshadow, lining it ever so slightly with a purple liner and applying a purple mascara then filling in the lips lightly with a pink lipstick.

The image at the top of the page is the advertisement by Chanel for the Spring 2016 collection however they haven't actually made a full advertisement this year for the collection like the previous years which included a model with the make-up on and the Chanel logo with the products and collection name as this year it had just been the image. The collection contains some light colours in the eyeshadow palette however also  lots of bright colours for the lips and the liners. This years image for the collection is very bright and bold and along with the image was a short film advertising the collection which had a mix of blue, purple, orange, pink etc. The collection can be used to create various of looks subtle and natural, bold and evening looks all suited for spring/summer. For the Chanel spring/summer 2016 runway the make-up was very simple with flawless skin, rose lips, blue blended round the eyes to create a mask and silver near the eyes. The editorial shoot by Chanel for this year isn't as bright as the make-up advertisement and the face is kept flawless, the lips are nude and the eyes have thick black pencil liner around them for a more dramatic look.
