Catwalk Face charts: Testing Catwalk make-up for Assessment

 FACE CHARTS

MAKE-UP LOOK 1

Look 1's main concentration is on the eyes so the skin and lips will be a flawless nude. The skin will be slightly dewy with certain features highlighted however not overly shiny. The cheeks will have a golden glow and will be bronzed. The lips will be kept a nude clothes close to the natural lip shade however just more nude and a light gloss will be applied over. The eyes will have a smoky grey liner at the bottom under the lash line and will be blended out across the lower eye. The top with have grey close to the lash line and then blue over the top, this will be applied thick and the top lid will be quite dramatic. The lid with then be filled in with the blue and with a liquid paste or oil blended out with a brush, next I will apply a blue shadow over the lid and blend it out to the top of the lid but not touching the brow. In the corner of the eye on both silver will be added and placed in the corners of the eyes, the lashes will have black mascara applied to darken them and add length. The brows will be filled in and will be thickened depended on the models brows and shaped then brushed through. For the hair I will completely curl the hair into beach waves and a few super curls, I will then loosely tie the hair back into a low ponytail and wrap a section of the hair round the ponytail so you cant see then band. At the front I will pull out little strands of hair to create a messy/wavy look and then spray to hold style.

MAKE-UP LOOK 2

This is the second catwalk look I created and starting off with the skin is a matte finish with certain areas on the face highlighted slightly and has a powdered set finish. The cheeks are contoured to give definition in the face and then a pink blush is applied to the cheeks finished with highlighting. The eyes are a winged liner the at the top and a grey to blue liner at the bottom flicking out parallel to the top liner however not a thick. The top is firstly lined with a bright blue pencil and then over lined with a blue liquid liner and then then the flick is created on the top, the bottom is lined with a grey pencil to the end of the eye under the lash line and then the blue liquid liner is used at the end to flick it out parallel to the top liner. Once stroke of black mascara is added to the lash to separate them slightly, the brows are filled in a rounded shape with a slight arch at the top and are quite defined. The lips will be representing the colour shipshape from the Chanel spring 2016 make-up collection which is a orange/red colour. The hair will be large and curly with a french plait in the centre of the hair and stops where the crown is, the hair will be completely curled, back combed and sprayed into position and then the top bit is sectioned with a pintail comb and then plaited in the middle.

MAKE-UP LOOK 3

The third look is created with matte skin and slightly contoured cheek bones, a small amount of blush will be placed on the apples of the cheeks however nothing to dramatic as its more to warm the skin up. The lips are a bright red solid colour to match the red strokes on the side of the face. The left hand side of the face will have light brush strokes of red, blue and white which are some of the colour used for spring/summer 2016. The lines will be coming down the side of the face over the temple and also getting the model to close her eyes and the brush strokes coming over her eye and through the brow. Line with also be going the other direction all in blues, reds and whites. The brows will be lightly filled in with product and brushed through and upwards slightly, the eyes will be kept simple as the main attention is on the brush strokes so the lashes with be separated and mascara with be put through lightly to create dark lashes and to extend them. The hair will be straightened and slicked back completely. Firstly I will straighten the hair and then I will back comb the top of the hair and the crown are to give volume at the top, I will then brush over the top of the back comb to neaten it out so there is no lumps or bumps and then the hair will sprayed to stay in position.

  1. First step was cleaning the face with toning water just to make sure the model face is make-up free. I then used a moisturiser all over the face and the neck. I then applied a primer to the face all over with my foundation brush, the skin is now ready for the application of make-up.
  2. I used two shades of foundations on the face, one darker than the skin tone and one lighter, this is to be able to give a light contour and sculpting of the face with the foundation. I applied the dark on the top of the forehead, cheekbones, chin, just under the jaw line and tip of the nose and side, I then applied the light on the centre of the forehead, under the eyes, below the cheekbones, centre of chin, eyelids and centre of the nose. I then placed bit of the make-up blend on my brush, this helps to blend the foundation into each other and give a slight glow to the skin. Using the brush I blended it all in and worked it onto the ears and down the neck.
  3. Next was setting the foundation and highlighting certain areas with the powder. I applied the white powder first under the eyes, centre of the forehead and under the cheekbones and the over I applied the banana powder. I let the product sit for a moment then used my large powder brush to brush it away and blend it into the rest of the face.
  4. I then used the bronzer with a large brush and put it gently on the forehead and cheeks. I then used the sculpting powder and used my brush to define the cheekbones. I then went over the cheeks with the Illamasqua blusher which is a mix of a dark pink and bright pink. Lastly on the skin was highlighting it which I used a fan brush and highlighted the center of the forehead, under brow, tops of cheekbones, down nose, cupids bows and chin.
  5. For the eye liner I used a bright blue pencil on the top of the eye by the lash line and extended to a flick, I then used the grey under the eye by the lash line. To finish the liner off I got the blue liquid liner and went over the top liner and created the perfect flick, I then created a small flick on the bottom lash line so they were parallel. Finally for the eyes I used the black mascara just to separate the lashes ever so slightly however not a heavy application.
  6. Next was the brows which I filled in completely so they were defined and created it at an arch with the product.
  7. I finally moved onto the lips where I lined the lips with a red liner and then filled it in with an orange lipstick and used the brush to blend the lips in completely so the red to orange fade was natural.
Hair

Products:

  • Paddle brush
  • pintail comb
  • elastic tie
  • small curling tongs
  • hair spray
  • hair clips
  1. I started with brushing the hair thoroughly to make sure there was no knots. I then started with sectioning the hair, I already put the hair tongs on ready to heat up for when I used them. I then sectioned the top half of the hair away and left the bottom part down. I then individually starting curling the each piece by piece by grabbing small sections.
  2. Once the bottom half was curled I let the top half of the hair down and started on the top again curling each section by section.
  3. Once the whole head was curled I used my pin tail comb to separate the middle section of the hair where I wanted to french plait. I equally sectioned both sides so around a 2 cm chunk was taken from the middle section all the way to the back. I then started at the hair line and started plaiting to the end of the hair and tied it off with an elastic band.
  4. Afterwards I used my fingers to separate some of the curls and then back combed the roots of the hair and hair sprayed it into place.

Final Evaluation of Practise Assessment Look

Overall I was most displeased with the hair as it wasn't as curly as I wanted it and it took much longer to curl than I thought it would so in the time frame of the assessment it would not be possible if I did it this way. The hair was a nice style and ended up looking more like beach waves however this was not the look I was going for. I wanted tight curls with lots of volume and thickness however it was a real disappointment after spending 45 minutes curling the hair. I realised after the curlers weren't the best ones because they didn't seem to get extremely hot so the curls came out very loose. My lecturer Kat then suggested trying rollers in the hair for the assessment, so putting the all smallest heated rollers in the hair and leaving it to coll while I did the make-up and then taking it out and the curls being ready. This was a possibility however the heated rollers sizes don't go very small and felt at the end I still wouldn't be happy with the outcome. I decided to try changing my hair design for it to fit better with the assessment timing and the look I'm going for. I will recreate the look on a face chart with a new hair style that I will work with for the assessment so it's practical and fits well with my Chanel Catwalk look. Overall I was very pleased with the make-up and I'm a huge fan of the blue eye liner and I think it looks very striking and the mix of the blue liner and orange lips shouts spring summer. I like the parallel liner from the top to bottom and the contrast of the grey below and the blue on top. I also kept the skin quite neutral with highlighted areas and a pink tone on the cheeks to warm up the skin for the summer glow. My next step is creating a new face chart with my hair style and also noting my products and steps for the assessment.
