CHANEL
SPRING/SUMMER 2012 READY-TO-WEAR

http://www.vogue.co.uk/fashion/spring-summer-2012/ready-to-wear/chanel

DOWN the stairs into the Grand Palais, we found ourselves wandering in a bleached white sea bed with giant shells, sea horses and sea weed climbing up towards the huge, glimmering shower curtain that contained it all. Karl Lagerfeld once again surpassed himself with the set - money as ever no object in his quest for newness and perfection.

As the twinkling harp music turned to haunting classical music and then Florence Welch's incredible voice took over (she wasn't visible, but she was singing live), the spring/summer 2012 Chanel collection emerged: delicate sea creatures darting out from the white in cream dresses of sea foam lace, pearlised tweed suits with full skirts and jackets cut shoulder-blade high at the back to show off pearl-studded spines, iridescent sequinned dresses falling to pale green ostrich feather skirts and chiffon finely gathered every which way across the bodices of dresses that had been caught in the tide.

Handheld, pearl encrusted sea shells made for clutch bags that will surely be next season's most desired status symbols, and silver leather ones were creased in every direction from the centre - twinkling like the sun had just caught the crest of a wave.

Flat soled metallic silver booties, pearl belts and little bags dripping with silken seaweed coils accessorised these sea nymphets, and colour bled in by way of pink and black blurred coral bed prints. One dress rippled with black-edged, pink printed chiffon scales, another had puffed black lace sleeves and fell in tiers of pale sequins, its top half overlaid in translucent chiffon to camouflage it just slightly from a predator's gaze.

Intricate couture techniques and an endless variety of fabric treatments meant the clothes moved and shimmered irrespective of the models wearing them, while ribbed knitted jackets and A-line skirts had the same light treatment but added a reality to the Chanel woman's life next season. Silver lamé skirts had drawstring waists and leather pencil skirts with matching, elastic-edged bomber jackets - all given a blueish, underwater sheen - gave the collection its sporty element. From the metallic silver tweed jackets to the most diaphanous tiered chiffon vests, worn over twinkling atheletic shorts or jellyfish skirts of pulsating tulle and lace, not a fraction of detail had been missed.

The spring advertisement is quite pink based with all the warm tones containing pinks, beige's, purple and peach. The collection is called Harmonie De Printemps and above is the advertisement double page spread for the collection. The model looks very natural with pink tones throughout the make-up, hair tied back and a white top with the background pink and white ombre with the product and name on the left hand side of the model.

The summer collection is called Summertime De Chanel and consists of golds and beiges for the summer tan look and a bright red/orange lip for the summer feel. Unlike springs collection this is definitely more of a golden glowing tan on the face, gold nails and bright lip. The shoot for the advertisement is on location in wooden house by the beach. The advertisement is not a double page spread as its portrait and has the collection name and date on the bottom left hand side and the products of the collection on the right. The model is wearing white and the panels she is holding onto is white which brings out the tan and colour for it to look more summery.

Spring-Summer 2012 Ready-to-Wear Campaign: Making Of - CHANEL

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8C1YZNUjqM

The spring/summer ready-to-wear advertising campaign was based around athletics the sea and sport: mainly gymnastics. Karl Lagerfeld told WWD back in October that Chanel's spring/summer 2012 ad campaign, which he photographed at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, France (the setting for his last resort collection), would be “all about athletics and the sea.…It’s very modern sportif and in black-and-white." True to his word, the campaign stars Saskia de Brauw and Joan Smalls on some uneven parallel bars. Because who doesn't do gymnastics by the sea in head-to-to Chanel, looking all serene? Good thing they've got wrist bands. Another image shows Saskia breezily sailing by on a rope swing. Carine Roitfeld styled the campaign for the second season in a row, and the result is gorgeous. Is this advertisement campaign a hint towards the 2012 Olympics in England with the use of the gymnastic equipment.

The spring/summer collection is often show in October the year before the collection so for this line in October 2011 they would announce the spring/summer 2012 collection and the spring make-up line launches in the January and the summer in May time. The clothing and accessories lines etc are always way ahead of time and predict the following season as in October they launch next summer and before summer has even started they launch the autumn/winter collection so its always so far in advance as they are fashion forecasting. The Chanel 2012 s/s runway had a theme of pearls and ran through the colours of the collection and the in the make-up and hair. As the hair was gelled back in a side parting creating a wet look by hair stylist Sam McKnight and the back put in a low chignon and the head kitted out with different size pearls dotted around the hair. The skin was flawless and the eyelids have light eye shadow with small black liner on the upper lid and a small flick. The lips were a natural pink colour with a nourishing gloss and the brows were slighting filled in, The pearls were also complimented on the face with a pearl attached to a certain area of the face either the brow or below the lip. The make-up wasn't too ott however followed the theme of underwater with the wet look hair and the natural make-up accessorised with pearls on the face, in the hair and on some models pearls going down the spine. I think the make-up looked classical and complimented the clothing collection well without the make-up and hair drawing the attention away.

The collections consists of many colours and each model comes out wearing different outfits in the same colour and then moves onto a different colours and shows a range of all the looks in all the colours for the s/s  collection. They start of with a white suit then moves onto black, gold and light pink while the clothes moves onto more casual wear which sports white with black graphic lines and then the white garments with black lines mix up the outfits one of which is a suit and then a pink frilly skirt. The colours starting appearing more from now on with pink and turquoise, pink and black leather and then back to black and white. The more patterned clothes start appearing now with patterned frilly dresses with graphic jackets and then moves onto long summer dresses in all different colours (one which contained blue, black, yellow, pink, orange) More head-to-toe white outfits and then follows through with a dazzling iridescent dress ties into spring/summer 2012's underwater trend nicely with reflective material on a dress and jacket. The light blue, light pink and white appears again until we hit the reflective rain jacket and full outfit and then we move onto the white and light blue until we hit the beach wear with bikini, swimsuits and throw overs. The last looks are metallic white/silver with white mesh tops and the last few looks are dresses that are white, black, turquoise and beige all colours collaborating with each other.
