Edit One
After shooting my evening advertisement I selected a few of my favourite images from the shoot and see what I could do. As the evening look is a bit darker and sexier while using the colours from the collection with the pink and smokey green I decided I was the evening ad to be a single page in a magazine. My favourite image out of the shoot is this image above and I was determined to use it. I started doing small bits of retouching and post-production to the image, getting rid of any marks spots and purely sharpening up the eyes, brows and hair. I then added in the chanel logo and collection name all in black, I had already created the products together before shooting so I knew what products were being advertised so it could project in the models make-up, so I then added the products on the right hand side. I chose to put it this was around so the products could sit nicely on the shoulder part of the skin. I looked at previous Chanel ads to look at the writing/logo on the page and either they just have Chanel or Chanel with the collection name and season. I liked the idea of the collection name with it as I felt it made it complete, The season is always a little bolder and then the name in regular and there's a larger gap between the collection and Chanel just to separate them. I'm really happy with the image and how she is gazing outwards and her hair is framing her left side, it looks very natural and her skin looks glowing and I really like the angle of the photo and the composition.
FEEDBACK
I booked in for a 1-1 to see Kat and get feedback on the image and to see if any improvements need to made the image and if its workable. There were a few problem with the image which didn't make it perfect, firstly wad the shadowing around the models mouth on the left side of the image which makes her look a little tense an the expression not natural, also the chest area could be a little more flawless like the face. If I could not edit the shadowing out and smooth out the tense areas Kat said this wouldn't be the best image as she doesn't look relaxed and the expression could be better in the models face. I agreed with the feedback and I didn't realise the mouth area that much until she pointed it out which now its the first thing I notice when I look at it. I was sad that either I couldn't use to image or I can seriously try and do some good editing on the face to blend it out and smooth the skin to make it look natural and flawless and try manipulating the expression slightly with some good skills.
Edit Two
This was my other favourite image which I chose to edit on the side if I couldn't manipulate my models expression. I really like this image and the mouth area is much smoother so I tried editing this one into an advertisement. I added in the logo and products and tried with the products on the opposite side than my first ad. I do really like this image however I feel the look isn't as strong and the head is tilted back a little too much making her chin raise. I think this image could work however I wanted to try edited my original favourite image and see what I could do to it. I left this one here and moved back to the first image.
Edit Three
So after so serious skills and keeping her looking natural I did it. I experimented with the image and tried multiple different edits and hours of perfecting it, it came together. So my first issue was the mouth area.. I needed the skin to lighten where the shadows were to make her mouth not look so tense. The first thing I tried was the colour replacement tool which takes the skin colour around it and will fill it into the dark areas to make it the same colour. This did not work and was not covering it and you could clearly see where it was placed over so that was a fail. My next solution was copying the skin from one side and pasting it onto the other and blending it in. So I copied the other side of the mouth and the skin next to it, pasted it back on and flipped it so it could work on the other side. I then changed the opacity of the square so i just covered the shadowing and doesn't look like a block on the face, the opacity went down to around 60%. I then used the rubber tool on 30% to blend out the edges and rub out where it was over layering on the lips. It was perfect and worked amazing, the skin look flawless and natural, because all I did was copy her own skin. I then used the spot healing brush to edit any minor areas. Next was I wanted to slim down her face and neck area ever so slightly, I selected the area and used the liquify tool to bring in the cheeks, neck and the forehead slightly and then making it all equal so it look in proportion. The mouth needed a little work, just to make her expression a little happier, again I selected the mouth and then used the liquify tool to plump her lips a little bit and then bring the side of her mouth up slightly so she looks like she is smiling ever so slightly while posing, This instantly changed her whole expression and it worked a treat. I then needed to clear up a certain area on the neck/chest so again copy and pasted another part of the skin and blended it out and then used the spot healing tool for any smaller sections. The face was finally coming together and I am really happy with how it came out. I then added the products and logo on which I decided to keep it the original way with the products on the right and logo on the left.
FEEDBACK
Comparison...
I booked in for another 1-1 to see Kat and showed her the second image I edited and also my re-edited first one. She wasn't keen on the second edit and felt the first one did have the potential I then showed her my final edit of the first image I created what I changed to it such as the shadows and tenseness around the mouth, the lips, face/neck size and the skin and the feedback was positive for this look. I think overall the ace expression looks so much better, she looks more natural and her expression seems happier. I'm so pleased and proud with what I have done to this image as I really wanted this to be my final image. I did not do any frequency retouching on the face for both looks as this gives the skin a blur effect which I feel can look very unrealistic and makes the skin look fake sometimes. This is purely her natural skin with a few marks removed and that is all, I have left the natural skin texture and pores as I want her to look natural and I did not want my editing to make her look fake or unrealistic. All the editing I did was minor and I kept it very subtle to keep it real. This will be my evening advertising look and I'm very happy with the image, its look professional and the edits are subtle and natural which is what I want.
