Make-up: Experimenting with creating a full S/S look

In one of our make-up lectures we were free to create whatever look we wanted and to experiment with any ideas. I decided to play around with blue liner and silver shadow around the eye and to create a full look.

Products:

  • Garnier moisturiser
  • Laura Mercier primer
  • Giorgio Armani foundation
  • Revlon foundation
  • Ben Nye banana powder
  • kroyan waterproof white powder
  • mac pink nude blush
  • Revolution highlighter
  • Rimmel magnif'eyes blue and dark grey
  • Revolution silver and bue eye shadow
  • Rimmel 3D black mascara
  • Anastasia Beverly Hill Dip brow pomade medium brown
  • kroylan oil mixer
  • Illamasqua scultping duo powder
  • Rimmel lip liner
  • MAC pink lips stick
  • Vaseline

  1. First step was toning the face with toning water just to make sure the model face is make-up free and clean. I then used a moisturiser all over the face and the neck. I then applied a primer to the face all over with my foundation brush, the skin is now ready for the application of make-up.
  2. I used two tones of foundations of the face, one slightly darker and one lighter, this is to be able to give a light contour and sculpting of the face with the foundation. I applied the dark on the top of the forehead, cheekbones, chin, just under the jaw line and tip of the nose and side, I then applied the light on the center of the forehead, under the eyes, below the cheekbones, center of chin, eyelids and center of the nose. I then placed bit of the oil mixer on my brush, this helps to blend the foundation into each other and give a slight glow to the skin. Using the brush I blended it all in and worked it onto the ears and down the neck.
  3. Next was setting the foundation and highlighting certain areas with the powder. I applied the white powder first under the eyes, center of the forehead and under the cheekbones and the over I applied the banana powder. I let the product sit for a moment then used my large powder brush to brush it away and blend it into the rest of the face.
  4. I then used the sculpting powder and used my brush to define the cheekbones. I then went over with my blush brush and pink blusher and applied to the cheeks. Lastly on the skin was highlighting it which I used a fan brush and highlighted the center of the forehead, under brow, tops of cheekbones, down nose, cupids bows and chin.
  5. I then moved onto the eyes where I lined the top of the eye and extended to a flick with the dark grey pencil, I then used the opposite end which is the blue and went over the top liner again and then line the bottom of the eye and joined it at the flick. I then used a smudgy sponge brush and blended the top and bottom of the liner so the line wasn't so harsh.
  6. Next was the eye shadow which I took the silver and put it in the corner of the eye, I then got a very small amount of the blue eye shadow and did the same in the corner of the eye. I then went over the lashes with black mascara giving them volume and length.
  7. For the brows I used a pomade so I dipped my brush in the product, look of the excess and drew on the brows following her natural shape and and just giving them definition.
  8. Next was the lips which I lined with a light pink/nude shade, I then filled them in with a MAC light pink nude lip stick where I then applied Vaseline over the top so the colour isn't too harsh.

HAIR
Products and equipment:
  • paddle brush
  • pin tail comb
  • hair spray
  • blue elastic tie
  1. I started with parting the hair into a side parting which I wanted quite far over so its in line which the arch of the brow.
  2. I then used my pin tail comb to grab the section of the hair at the front where I will start my dutch plait. Once I had got the three stands I started plaiting down incorporating more hair into it. I then finished it off by the back of the ear and tied it with a small blue elastic band.
  3. I finally brush through the rest of the hair and back combed at the roots and backcombed the end of the plait to give it a bit of volume.

FINAL EVALUATION

I'm really pleased with the outcome of my final look. I wanted to experiment with the colours silver and blue which is a key colour in the spring/summer 2016 collection. I'm really happy with how the eyes came out and the subtle blue looks piercing. I like the mix of the smokey grey and blue and how I smudged it out to blend it together and make the line not so harsh. I wasn't going for a super neat flick it was more of a brush out the product into a wing and again smudged out. I decided not to use the blue and silver eye shadow all over the eye because I didn't want it to be to over powering and wanted the liner the main colour around the eye. Instead I placed the silver in the corner which gave a beautiful highlight and then the blue worked well highlighting the liner. I kept the lips light and simple because I was going for a flawless face with a hint of pink on the cheeks, highlighted features and nude lips to keep the attention on the dreamy blue eyes. I'm pleased with my experiment and think it went very well and I really like the look. If the face was a little more natural and the hair was slicked back Chanel is the look.
