My chosen brand for the unit beauty and the brand is Chanel. I
decided to go with Chanel because it has a very well-known fashion house and
has decades of history within itself from when Coco Chanel was first born. I
feel Chanel is a well suited brand for me as the style can either be edgy and
bright or super chic and classic. I love the classic look of Chanel which is
featured continuously throughout every season’s show of which is the womens
tweed suit and iconic 2.55 hand bag. Karl Lagerfeld is currently head designer and
creative director of the fashion house Chanel and joined the brand in 1983. Karl Lagerfeld has driven success and
promotion within the company and has kept Coco Chanels classic look but brought
new prints and patterns into the collection creating diversity and reaching out
to a wider target audience.
During
the course of the unit I have thoroughly enjoy researching Chanel past and how
Gabrielle started off with a small hat boutique in Paris and has built up her
brand to worldwide success selling make-up, clothing, jewellery and perfumes
etc. One of Chanels most iconic product is Chanel No.5 which was created in
1921 and still features the same black and white packaging. Chanel No.5 has
been advertised with stars such as Marilyn Monroe to now currently super model
Giselle Bundchen and is one of the bestselling perfumes in the world. Coco
Mademoiselle Chanel was released in 2001 and was aimed for a younger target
audience as Chanel now a days is targeting the classy, independent, younger
members of the elite.
This
Year Chanel spring/summer ready-to wear collection was inspired by travel and
was featured in an airport. The line featured combinations of colours, the main
being blue, red and white. The spring make-up collection L.A. Sunrise features flashes of purple, teal and green
capture the city’s carefree spirit, while a dreamy spectrum of pink, coral and
raspberry shades evoke the California morning skies. For each of my shoots I
fully considered Chanel styling and the colours of the spring make-up
collection to be feature in each of my look while gathering inspiration and
trends from other designers.
Chanel as a brand invests a lot of money
into promoting itself and keeping up to date and forward with fashion. Chanel implements a series of advertisements on
TV, billboards, magazine spreads and social media while featuring 5-6 fashion
shows a year for their collections. Chanel has a timeless classic look and has
the position in the fashion industry to be able to create any look and be
praised for it. Chanel price point is on the higher end for clothing and
accessories as a 2.55 iconic bag is around £4000 however when it comes to the
make-up line so products can be good valued for Chanel a high end brand. The
products are good quality and you get what you pay for when it comes to the
brand as you are also paying for the name.
I feel I have thoroughly researched Chanels history, style,
products, identity and feel my research, inspiration and development has
projected itself in my final images as I have taken all aspects into
consideration. Beauty and the brand has really developed my research skills and
helped me consider Chanel as a brand and my development over the past weeks and
coming to the initial conclusion of my final images and how Chanel influenced
my looks. I feel this unit has helped me be very independent and I have
thoroughly enjoyed the unit and I have no regrets choosing Chanel.
